I hear all kinds of reasons: I don’t have XYZ microphone. If I only bought ABC plug-in. I don’t have a ‘professional space’. The list goes on. Maybe you’ve told yourself the same thing. Maybe.
I always ask these people well, where do you want to be? Again, common answers: I want to do this full time. I want to make $$. I want professional quality.
Awesome. So – why aren’t you there?
This is where I hear the justifications. “Well I mean, none of my clients have ever complained” “My friends think it sounds good”
Great! You’re a pro!!! BUT – the fact is they are still on a session. With me. Looking for help. Somewhere inside they know they aren’t where they want to be. Could be. Something is missing and they need help.
I know. I used to be one of these people. I was ‘good enough’. I was ‘better than my friends’ I ‘wasn’t terrible’
I also was so frustrated when hearing my final masters against my favorite music that I quit releasing music for 5 years. Don’t be like me. It’s truly soul crushing.
